Senior Minister Sarath Amunugama says the Central Bank of Sri Lanka purchased Greek bonds in line with related regulations. The Minister, in parliament today made this statement in response to a question raised by leader of the opposition Ranil Wickramasinghe under standing orders. Leader of the United National Party said many sold their Greek bonds after speculating the prevalent situation while the CBSL did the exact opposite. The Opposition leader highlighted, Sri Lanka incurred a loss of 3.4 billion rupees through the investment. Ranil Wickremesinghe also demanded the details of the investment be revealed. In response the statement, Senior Minister Amunugama said the Financial Board had approved the investment. Terming the Greek investment an excellent one the Senior Minster added they expect a turnover of 292 billion rupees from the investment.
